2023 FARM CREW
Twin Organics is a 120-acre organic vegetable farm located 35 miles south of Minneapolis/St Paul and 5 miles north of Northfield, MN. We grow 15 acres of field and greenhouse vegetable crops for restaurants and co-ops in the Twin Cities. We also grow organic plant starts for co-ops and other retail locations in the spring.
We utilize an acre of greenhouses, a heated machine shop, and a large heated packshed.
Twin Organics is owned and operated by twin brothers, Jacob and Andrew Helling. Our goal is to be financially and ecologically sustainable while finding a good work-life balance for ourselves and our employees.
Responsibilities
Full-time crew members work in every aspect of the farm including greenhouse work, transplanting, cultivating, field work, irrigation, and harvesting and packing. We work hard but keep a regular 40-hour a week schedule.
Crew members should plan to work most of their time directly with the plants in the greenhouses or in the fields. During the high season (June - October), the crew will participate in a designated harvest twice a week (Mondays and Thursdays) ensuring the highest quality product and demonstrating the importance of food safety and handling. During the remainder of the week, crew members are expected to work with the farm management team to maintain the quality and efficiency of the farm.
We take a paid midday lunch break in the climate controlled employee kitchen and break room complete with oven range, microwave, and refrigerator. Employees also have access to their own garden space as well as all the vegetables they might want for their own use.
Qualifications
Reliable transportation to and from the farm
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Ability to work outside and in all weather conditions
Experience on a farm is preferred but not required
Tractor experience not necessary but welcomed
An interest in learning about sustainable and organic vegetable production
If you are new to farming or have been on farms for a couple seasons there is a place for you at Twin Organics. There is also room for growth and promotion over multiple seasons. If you have specific farming interests we try to accommodate them (i.e. greenhouse work). We can also work with flexible schedules.
The farm season runs April through November and entails 40 to 45 hours of work Monday through Friday. Due to our extended production season for transplant production and greenhouse crops such as winter greens, there is likely work available during the shoulder seasons (mostly in March and December).
Pay starts at $16-18. DOE.
